Aunt Jen meets Baby Cooper.

Aunt Jen surprised us this weekend and came for a visit!

My mom and Aunt Carol showed up at my house Saturday morning and I handed the baby off to my mom so I could finish blow drying my hair.  When I came out, JENNY was sitting in my living room holding my baby! I was shocked! Mom arranged the whole thing as our Mother's Day gift!

We headed out for a baseball game!

Cooper LOVES his Aunt Jen!

We had a lovely Sunday dinner with the grandparents and Aunt Carol.

 Coop's first Moby ride!

 Celebrating Jen's Birthday!

Our son is quite enthralled with his Daddy... And I believe the feeling is mutual!

Thanks Jen for coming to visit us and thanks Grammy for making it happen!

2 weeks.

The past two weeks have flown by! Baby Cooper is growing and changing every day. We're soaking in every sweet minute with our little peanut. Ryan has been off work for two weeks and goes back tomorrow. Say your prayers! Cooper is eating every 3 hours during the day and going 3.5-4 hours at night. This tired mommy sees this as a victory! Poor baby's tummy has been gassy the past few days, but gas drops have certainly seemed to do the trick! Ryan and I even got out for a little date yesterday...Can you say Sonic drinks and mozzarella sticks at the park for the afternoon?

Sweet Lindsey decorated the house for our homecoming!

I cannot say enough about what a great dad Cooper has!

 Milk drunk.

We do NOT enjoy bath time.

He's having more alert times during the day, and his eyes are lightening up!

We've spared no time in getting acquainted with the grandparents and great-grandparents!

First walk! We like to get out at least once a day for some sunshine and fresh air.

We love you Baby Coop! We're so blessed to be your parents!

Baby Cooper's Nursery.

I've been meaning to post nursery pictures for a while now, but I've been just a little preoccupied with our little man!
Here's the view from the door....The Daddy is sold separately. :)
  • The dresser is Hemnes from Ikea and we added the changing pad to the top.

  • This is a Billy Bookcase from Ikea and I covered the back with a yellow polka dotted fabric.
  • The crib is borrowed from our dear friends Dave and Whitney.
  • My mom and I made all of Cooper's bedding.
  • I got the idea for the mobile from Pinterest and used leftover fabric from the quilt my mom made.
  • We bought these curtains at TJ Maxx and added the chevron fabric to the bottom for length.
  •  The artwork above his crib is from etsy.
  •
  • The rocker was a gift from Grammy from Target.com.
  • The side table is Hemnes from Ikea.
  •  The bookshelf is also Ikea.
And here's a picture of my two main men. Have I mentioned that my heart is full?

Cooper's Birth Day.

On Saturday April 7th my contractions started around 10am. My mom came over and we walked for an hour and that really helped get them going. Often when walking at the end of my pregnancy, the contractions would rev up, but as soon as I’d get home and sit down, they were long gone. Today was different. Throughout the afternoon they became closer and closer together, and by 6PM were 3-4 minutes apart. We were told to call when they were 3-4 minutes for an hour, and for good measure waited until 8PM. The midwife on call told us to come in, so we packed our bags and headed to hospital. We were so excited to finally meet our little man! When we got there, they hooked me up and checked me. I was dilated a whopping 2 cm. The nurse told us to walk for an hour and come back. When I got back, I had hardly dilated any more. Due to my slightly elevated blood pressure and some dips in Cooper’s heart rate during contractions, they admitted us.

Checked in and sipping on juice!
Happy soon-to-be Mom and Dad.

Last belly pic-39 weeks.
We were thrilled that we wouldn’t be leaving the hospital without our baby! We checked into our sweet room and called our families. (We didn’t want to sound the alarm if they were going to send us home). By this time it was 11pm and for the next 5 or so hours they alternated between me walking for 30 minutes and monitoring Coop’s heart rate. The nurses and midwife didn’t really like the dips they were seeing, but kept a close eye on it and never seemed too worried. They thought maybe he was pushing on his cord or something, but didn’t quite know. When they finally saw a good pattern on the monitor, they decided to start Pitocin to get my contractions going. At around 6:30am I got the epidural and could’ve kissed the anesthesiologist. Cooper’s heart rate was continuing to dip, but not recover as quickly. The most nerve-wracking thing for Ryan and I was listening to his heartbeat go from 147 bpm to 30 and slowly make their way back up. The nurse put oxygen on me to see if that would help. It didn’t. I had a mini panic and the nurse and midwife explained everything to me and calmed me down. Ryan was constantly praying for me and reassuring me that everything would be okay. By the time Dr. Trujillo was assigned to me also, I had such a peace and knew I was in good hands. As soon as his head moved down far enough, they broke my water to put monitors on his head and saline into my uterus to try and cushion his cord. By this time, I was only dilated 4 cm. The water breaking only put Coop into more distress and soon there were 10 people in the room handing Ryan his bunny suit and getting me prepped for surgery.

Obviously I did not want a c-section and assumed I would be disappointed, but as they were wheeling me back I had nothing but thankfulness in my heart to live in a place and be at a hospital where they could get our son out safely. At 12:08pm on Easter Sunday, David Cooper Gilmore was born and our hearts rejoiced.

As it turned out, the cord was wrapped around his little neck twice. They brought him back to me in recovery and I was so amazed by our beautiful and healthy boy. Our hearts are full.
The next day after they finally let me eat and shower!

Praise be to God from whom all blessings flow!
